PROGRAMS FOR SCHOOLS

The programs offered are ideal for children in the Middle Primary years. The focus is on children's traditional games - the kinds of activities children choose to play in their own time and in their own way. These games, and the folklore around them, have been passed down through the generations, usually from child to child, to the children of today.

There are a range of programs including displays, workshops, illustrated talks, games demonstrations and play activities. The programs can be supported by an interesting collection of pictures, playthings, memorabilia and games, which are used to show historical and cultural similarities and differences in children's play.

Each program is planned and developed through discussion and according to specific needs.

Examples of recent play programs:

• 'Aboriginal Children's Play' - presentation and workshop for children in Year 1, Princes Hill Primary School
• 'Re-skilling the playground' - workshop for children in Years 1/2, Officer Primary School, to teach them some traditional games and rhymes
• PYP workshops: What is a Toy?, Toys Made by Children and Toys from Different Countries and Cultures for children in Years 1/2, St. Catherine's School, Toorak

Other potential children's programs:

• 'Old-fashioned' games
• Rhymes from the playground
• Hop, skip, jump & wriggle
• Ball games
• Collecting things
• String games ('Cat's Cradle')
• Don't lose your marbles!
